About

My name is Benjamin Goffin. I am a doctoral research fellow within the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Virginia.

My research in Prof. Venkat Lakshmi’s team focuses on water processes and terrestrial variables. Specifically, I leverage remote sensing to analyze changes in climate patterns, catchment response and extreme hydrological events. Funded by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation Fellowship and UVA Engineering Distinguished Fellowship, my work aims to inform water management, mitigate flood risks, and enhance community resilience.

Previously, I earned a Bachelor of Science from Bluefield State University and Master of Science from the University of Virginia. Upon graduation, I gained several years of practical experience with an engineering firm in the greater Boston area. Through my PhD and beyond, I am eager to engage with partners across academia, industry, and government to address the ongoing water-related challenges posed by an aging infrastructure system and rapidly changing environment.
